Focusing on YA Literature in the Media

When it comes to publicizing literature, the Young Adult category has recently become one of the more profitable genres to write. With the success of such YA novels as Holes and The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants and series such as J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter, the genre has exploded with new authors trying to capitalize on the success.
I believe that part of the sudden expansion of the YA genre is due in part to the attention focused on it by educators who use the novels as teaching tools in the classroom and authors who grew up without any sort of appropriate reading material to bridge the gap between simple chapter books and classic novels.
Another factor which helped pushed YA literature into the public's eye is Hollywood and their adaptation of several quintessential novels, including the previously mentioned ones. By putting these books on screen, readers can see the stories come to life before their eyes and entice potential readers to pick up the book version and revisit the the story and the characters.
In short, I'm using this blog to research the connection between the involvement of Hollywood and the marketing techniques of YA literature to young readers and the success of the various novels and the expansion of the genre.
